I'm sure we've all heard the news; the Cataclysm intro cinematic has been released. I don't want to spoil it for anyone, but DAMN was it amazingly good! It inspired me to start writing about my poor Tauren hunter's perspective on post-deathwing'd events. TECHNICALLY, this hasn't happened yet since Deathwing hasn't burst out yet. BUT bear with me.
Title: Tick Tick Boom.
Disclaimer: This universe does not belong to me, but the characters kind of do.
Summary: In the wake of the cataclysm, a tauren hunter, his pet wolf, and his netherdrake friend attempt to make sense of things while helping in any way they can. This bit is right after the world blows up (kinda).
Character/pairing(s): Um... no one really?
The tremors of the dragon's primal fury--which had been incubating quietly beneath Azeroth's molten mantle for many, many years--were felt the world over. His roar shattered civilizations, his flames decimated populations, and his terrible, ancient rage echoed across the skies, cutting above every noise the world had made before.
The Cataclysm had come, and in its wake, the entire world was burning.
He'd seen so much since he'd left home for the first time, but this... nothing compared to this. Nothing came even remotely close.
The world was broken. It was just... shattered. So much destruction in so little time... and why? Why had this happened?
From atop Zoya's back, it was difficult not to feel the enormous scope of the disaster. Fire, water, wind, earth... all were twisted and used against Azeroth, tearing her apart, wounding her gravely. As his friend's wings cut swaths through the smokey air, Kheno found his thoughts wandering into strange places.
What was left? -Who- was left? What could they possibly do now? Was this the end of everything?
The demons of the burning legion had failed to accomplish this over multiple millenia. Azeroth's denizens had always fought them and prevailed. The lich king had attempted to subdue them over the span of a few years, and yet, against all odds, they prevailed.
This had happened in a day. In a single day, the world was changed forever. Nothing would ever be the same now. There would be war, famine, death... so many had died, and so many more would. Chaos like this could only beget more chaos. How, in the face of such unimaginable devastation, could anyone hope to survive?
Zoya landed deftly on what had once been one of Mulgore's smaller buttes. Now, in the wake of Deathwing's cataclysmic return, it was one of the tallest. Kheno dismounted, unable to keep himself from staring at the madness unfolding before him.
The veridian netherdragon pulled him close, clutching him to her chest with a massive paw and snaking her head around to touch his. "We'll survive. It's all we can do."
He sighed, allowing himself to cry into her skin.
"We will survive, and then, when the time is right," her tone changed abruptly, "we will help destroy the one responsible."
Kheno shivered, even though it was abnormally hot out.
